Care Guide

Each object at Atelier Chus is wheel-thrown and finished by hand in Seon, Switzerland. Every piece is twice fired—first at 1000 degrees and then at 1220-1260 degrees. This process transforms the clay into a dense, durable, vitrified stoneware, making it suitable for everyday use.

Because of the nature of high-fire stoneware and the hand-glazing process, subtle variations in size, form, and surface texture are inherent to the work. These are not flaws, but the unique "fingerprints" of a slow-made object.

Like any natural material, stoneware can change slightly with age and use. Small marks of use are part of the object’s story and its life in your home. If you treat your pottery with care, it is designed to last a lifetime.

Food Safety

The glazes I use are lead-free and specifically formulated to be food-safe. They feature a vitrified surface designed to be both beautiful and functional.

Cleaning

While my stoneware is dishwasher safe, hand-washing is warmly recommended. The gentler pace of hand-washing helps maintain the depth and luster of the glaze over many years.

Microwave & Heat

Microwaves should be avoided. Handmade stoneware can be sensitive to "thermal shock"—rapid changes in temperature—which may cause the clay to stress or crack over time. Similarly, please avoid placing cold ceramics directly into a preheated oven.

Storage

To protect the vitrified surface and prevent scratches, I recommend not stacking your pieces when storing them. Give each object its own space to breathe.
